How to Care for Your Wooden Bowl

Cutting Board Wax

Gary recommends using Caron & Doucet cutting board wax for cutting boards and more.

Wax or Oil Your Bowl

For the best results, follow these wooden bowl care instructions:

  • Once a day for a week
  • Once a week for a month
  • Once a month for a year
  • Once a year for life

The oil keeps wood nicely moisturized to help prevent cracking, warping, or staining from acidic foods.

The wax seals the oil in and adds a more durable barrier for a long-lasting, healthy food-service finish.

This natural, plant-based alternative to food-grade mineral oil (derived from petroleum) will never go rancid. The product is specifically designed to protect wood from absorbing unwanted liquids that can cause warping or cracking.

How to Care for a Wooden Bowl

To keep your bowl in excellent condition, we recommend using both the oil and wax during the first year or so of use. Like antique handmade wood bowls, our wooden products are intended to become family heirlooms. Much like a cast-iron pan, they develop a warm, protective patina over time and require less maintenance to renew their all-natural finish.

How to Clean a Wooden Bowl

Your bowls require only minimal care to retain their natural beauty and functionality. To clean a wooden bowl, wash it with soap and water, then towel-dry or allow it to air-dry. Do not allow the bowl to soak in water for extended periods.

Do not put your wooden bowl in the dishwasher or microwave.

Bowls should be waxed or oiled before their first use.
